State Champs are a growing pop-punk band, based out of Albany, NY, who continue to put out catchy songs with expressive and serious lyrics. Their latest music comes from their new studio album, Around the World and Back. The first single from the album, Secrets, was released July 16, 2015 and set the mood for the record. The song is a great tune and it really shows off the band’s talent. Lyrically, the song demonstrates anger and frustration-- the narrator of the song seems to be done with a certain person and is in a way saying, “you don’t know me” and “I won’t forget how you hurt me.” The song portrays a person holding a grudge and how they feel about it. The other singles, Losing Myself and All You Are Is History, have similar but different sounds and they are both full of emotion. This new up-and-coming punk band is very raw and doesn’t hold back on the music they want to release and perform. They have a way of mixing interesting and detailed lyrics with a fast, catchy beat to create a sound that is purely State Champs. This record is set to release October 16th of this year, but if you can’t wait to hear more of them, you can check out some of their other albums: The Finer Things, The Acoustic Things, or Apparently, I’m Nothing.
