Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan My Rating: 5 stars Goodreads rating: 4.30 stars Magnus Chase has been living on the streets of Boston for the last 2 years. Ever since his mom died he has been hiding, staying one step ahead of the police officers who wanted to question him, and away from his Uncle who never really cared about him before. All that changes when his uncle finally tracks him down and tells him a life changing secret. Magnus’s dad was a Norse god. Now everything Magnus thought he knew has been flipped upside down and he has to prevent Ragnarok. He has to find a weapon that has been missing for thousands of years and sometimes you have to die to start your new life. I am a hardcore Rick Riordan fan and whenever he puts out a new book it shoots to the top of my To Be Read list. This one did not disappoint, there was action, adventure, an extremely sarcastic narrator, and very relatable characters. As always, Riordan has done a fantastic job combining modern life with classic myths to make everything interesting. Oh, also Rick Riordan is a huge Taylor Swift fan, proven in this book. |
Life and Death by Stephanie Meyer My rating: 4 stars Goodreads rating: 3.24 stars For Twilight’s tenth anniversary Stephanie Meer has rereleased he famous book but with a twist. All the characters genders have been flipped. Now the story focuses on Beau and Edythe and their love. Beau has just moved to Forks to live with his dad, Charlie. On his fist day at his new school he meets Edythe, a beautiful mysterious girl who no one really knows about him and his family. He needs to know this girl and what her secret is. This is basically just Twilight with a twist, same plot, almost the same characters, but there are differences. The book ended differently and a lot of minor details were changed. If you loved the Twilight books or just need a laugh this is a good read. I read it more for a laugh then for anything else but Stephanie Meyer writes in a way that made it hard to put down. |
