A lot has happened in the theaters over the last few months. If you still haven’t seen The Force Awakens, you may still have a chance at it over the next week or so. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing it twice, and I must say it’s still a solid 9/10. The acting was spot on and it still had the “feel” from the first trilogy. Episode VIII will be released December 17th, 2017. Since nerd movies are on the rise for the next decade, the next biggest craze is Marvel’s Deadpool. This movie was HILARIOUS. It got a lot of beef for being rated-R but it’s nothing new in that sense. I’d equate it to Watchmen. If you could sit through that one then Deadpool will not phase you. Also, there’s an after credit scene, so don’t get up right away! Then there’s Captain America: Civil War coming up around the corner. I personally found the trailer a little boring. Not surprising since the Age of Ultron trailer surpassed the actual movie. Tony Stark is becoming the new Wolverine. Both characters are being so overused that they are draining their movies. I get it, he’s rich and witty but if he ruins Civil War the way he did Age of Ultron I might cry. Not to mention they missed a GREAT opportunity to transition into Civil War with Captain America ending his bromance with Iron Man but I’ll try and get over that as well.
As far as Marvel goes, be sure to check out the Daredevil Season 2 trailer : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y44m5739m-4
Now, for DC, the hype is real for Batman V. Superman and Suicide Squad. I suggest pre-ordering for both. Suicide Squad is projected to earn almost as much as Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. From the Suicide Squad trailer, it looks like Joker may have killed Jason Todd (Robin) but this means that Dick Grayson may still be alive (the other robin) so I’m hoping for a Nightwing movie in the future. But Batman V. Superman will be a great one, everyone is in it. Loved how they jumped right into the creation of the Justice League.
I will add that X-Men: Apocalypse looks like a hit or miss. I would wait a week after the release before going. J-Law is giving the movie a bad image. For anyone who knows the story, Mystique is essentially just Magneto’s girlfriend. She has no major roles after joining up with him. In the movies she’s portrayed as the hero and that’s even more nuts since she is a bad guy. Don’t even let me get started on why they keep making her look like a human most of the time. Mystique would usually only dawn a normal look if she’s on a mission. After embracing that she is a mutant, she is almost always blue.
Other than that, here’s some good movies/shows to check out in March:
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story on FX
Downton Abbey on PBS (FINAL SEASON; I actually binged on this online and finished it two weeks ago. Worth the watch.)
2/26 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny on Netflix
In Theaters:
2/19 The Witch
3/11 10 Cloverfield Lane
3/25 Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
