The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle Goodreads Rating: 3.78 Stars My Rating: 4.5 Stars The Accident Season is about a family who every year in October have what they refer to as ‘the accident season.’ For a whole month they have accidents that range anywhere from bruises to tripping to car accidents to even death during particularly bad years. However, something is different this year- Cara, her ex-stepbrother Sam, best friend Bea, and sister, Alice start to question what’s happening and why it happens to them. I read this book in one sitting and I could not put it down. The plot was unlike anything I’d ever read and though it was a bit cliché at times, it was still an addicting book. It takes place in October around Halloween so I thought it was perfect to be in my October picks. |
Panic by Lauren Oliver Goodreads rating: 3.57 Stars My Rating: 5 Stars Panic takes place in a small town where nothing ever seems to happen. Every year right after graduation a senior can participate in a game called Panic where the stakes are high but the payout is even higher. The game consists of different, potentially lethal tasks to test your bravery and if you win you receive a lot of money- the prize is $67,000. Heather wasn’t going to play until she had someone to make her need the money. Dodge had a reason to play, he just needed to win. The pace of this book was as amazing as the plot itself. Every time you thought the book was slowing down something would happen to put it back in motion. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want to put it down. It's action packed and full of memorable characters who have to make some difficult decisions. |
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin Goodreads Rating: 4.11 Stars My Rating: 4.8 Stars The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer begins when Mara wakes up in the hospital with no memory of the accident that put her there and killed three of her best friends. She has no idea what killed her friends and left her unharmed. To help her deal with the loss, her whole family moves to Florida to try to forget the accident and move on with their lives. The only issue is that Mara keeps seeing her dead friend. She sees them in mirrors, in school hallways, and she sees them everywhere. This novel deals with trauma, love, and mystery. It was interesting to read and it was a bit cliché at times but if you like clichés it’s a good choice. |
